interlaken-large2This past weekend, February 5th through 8th, I went to Interlaken, Switzerland. It was an amazing trip that I would recommend to anyone.  It is alittle annoying to get to, but deffinitely worth it.  To get there, you have to fly into Geneva and then take a 3 hour Swiss train to Interlaken. Most of the trains stop in Bern, the capital of Switzerland.  We did all this Thursday night, getting to our hostel around 12 a.m. The two most popular hostels in Interlaken are Balmers and Funny Farm.  We stayed in funny farm for around 20 € a night.  There are alot of popular things to do there like sky diving, paragliding, night sledding, and skiing.  The group I chose to go with decided to go skiing both days.  In order to rent your ski gear (including clothes and a 2 day lift ticket) it will cost around 300 franks. I suggest getting up early and going to the outdoor interlaken store. I got there around 830 and there was almost a 2 hour wait to rent your stuff. It is deffinitely worth it to wake up early and get your stuff before the crowd gets there. We skied at Griendelwald and Klien Scheidegg. I thought both were great mountains. The conditions were amazing on the second day.  There was a snowstorm late friday night into all saturday that dropped about a foot of snow before the day was over.  The only downside was that since it was a storm and we were at such high elevations, sometimes you would be skiing through an actual cloud so the visability wasnt the great.  Ohter than that it was an amazing experience.  The night life in Interlaken is interesting to say the least. Everything closes around ) p.m., including the restaurants. If you want to go out and drink there are only 1 of 2 options.  Either you can hang out with the American tourists in the frat like basement of Balmers or you can go to to Funny Farm and hang out at their lobby bar with very few people or in their basement “club” with a bunch of Swiss teenagers.  Either option would prove to be an interesting night.  Interlaken was deffinitely a great trip and a place I would recommend to anyone.  It was very different than my last trip to Rome, not as much to see or as much history, but it was amazing in its own way.
